14.00: CHILDRENS BOOK READING. Kids

Sørum based Irish illustrator, Christine Caplice Grinde will read from her first children’s book, “Fire Hjorter i Skogen” published by Publica bok. Her book includes a song in Norwegian that takes inspiration from the Irish lullaby Éiníní which Christine will sing.

14.30: COVERING BREVIK. Journalism

Freelance journalist Audrey Andersen will talk about her experience covering the 22nd July 2011 terror attacks in Oslo and on Utøya.

15.00: WORKING HANDS.  Dance & Film

This is a choreography for camera piece created and produced by Breeda Mannix which explores the fluidity of bread making through the medium of dance. The artist will talk about her work process after the screening.

15.30:SAMUEL BECKETT. Literature

Theatre artist Brendan McCall will read excerpts from Samuel Beckett´s Texts for Nothing, a collection of thirteen untitled short prose pieces written between 1950 and 1952.

Artist Rory Mitchell casts an eye over visual interpretations of Ireland's striking scenery,
charting its evolution through the ages.

Musician Tirill Mohn will talk us through her journey with Yeats while recording her 2011 album Nine and Fifty Swans

Festival director and bookseller John Fitzgerald talks about selected books from his private collection.

18.00: READING BY SAM McMANUS.   Literature

Sam will read from his 2017 Hennessy Fiction Award shortlisted work: 'The Dog in the Story'. He is a writer, doctor and co-director of Irrgrønn Productions, an Oslo based cultural production company.

18.30:READINGS WITH OLAF TYARANSEN.  Literature, Poetry & Journalism

Music journalist, author and poet, Olaf Tyaransen will read selected excerpts from his various writings.   

19.00: THE FINDLAY AFFAIR.  History

Historian and author Bjørn Godøy will talk about Roger Casement’s brief stay at the Grand Hotel, Oslo in 1914 and the subsequent high intrigue of the so-called Findlay Affair.

19.30: POETRY READING BY DAVID TOMS.  Poetry

David’s poetry is rooted in the Irish experimental modernist tradition, using song, folklore and etymology to produce poetry that is sonically engaging, rooted in the oral and which insists on the flexibility of meaning. His first collection, Soma/Sema, was published in 2011 by Knives Forks and Spoons Press.

20.00: THE DOOLIN YEARS – REMBERING MICHO RUSSELL.  Music & Documentary

In the mid/late 70’s, both film maker Morten Thomte and fiddle player Erik Fossum Svendsen met the legendary County Clare musician Micho Russel. In this presentation they will reminisce on these magical times.

20.30: SOCCER AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD.  Sport & history

David Toms, author of Soccer in Munster: A Social History, takes us on a journey to the sporting past when Ireland and Norway, determined to stake a place on the world stage for the 1938 World Cup, played one another for the first time. Using original film footage and radio material, Toms brings these historic first encounters to life.

21.00: RACE MUSIC/ROCK ’N’ ROLL AND THE IRISH INFLUENCE.  Music & History

Musician Eamonn Dowd will talk about the influence of early Irish settlers on the formative years of Race Music/Rock ‘N’ Roll in the USA.

21.30: PANEL DISCUSSION.  Journalism & Music

Music journalists, Olaf Tyaransen of Hot Press and Martin Bjørnersen of Klassekampen will discuss their careers as music journalists and talk about some of their more memorable interviews.
